SIMPLE STEPS FOR STRESS RELIEFHaving just talked about the positive effects of reading a good book we thought we’d give you some more information on the issue of stress. Stress has far-reaching effects and the management of stress is such an important component of your health. Our bodies respond to stress by releasing hormones such as adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol. These are all fine in small amounts in times of high stress…but more is not always better. And certainly extended release of these hormones can have negative impact on our health.
The purpose of the stress hormones os to increase circulating energy available for a quick response to life and death situations – and in the process shut down those systems in the body that aren’t necessary for such acute performance, such as digestion, reproduction and immunity.
Because modern life can be so hectic we are at the effect of prolonged exposure to these hormones and this can result in chronic metabolic abnormalities, poor digestion, hormones imbalance, immune suppression, and emotional and mental dysfunction. This makes stress a key risk factor for cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, cancer, diabetes, depression, premature-aging, sleep disturbances and many other illnesses.
How can we help you?
- Is your stress more anxiety based or more fatigue based, or a combination of both, or sleep disturbing?
- What particular emotional and physiological expressions of stress do you have? Volatile moods, irritability, bad temper, anxiety, emotional instability, hormonal disruption, tension, agitation, teary, weepy, shy, introverted, insomnia, lethargy, apathy, mental exhaustion.
- What other nutritional support do you need?
What YOU Can Do:
- Get excited about creating a healthy lifestyle – get committed to making your health a priority.
- Eat a healthy diet – you really do know what that means!
- Get the basics right:
- no junk food
- no soft drinks
- limit your caffeine and alcohol intake
- drink more water
- eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetable – a variety of colours
- some good quality protein – meat and fish as organic as possible
- get some regular exercise – even a walk for half an hour every second day, breath and speed up the pace a bit
- fresh air and sunshine every day – avoid the “hot sun” but get yourself outside for at least 15minutes everyday – regular, limited exposure to sun in the safe times, without sunscreen has actually been shown to be beneficial - when you do use a Sunscreen make sure you use one that is safe such as “UV Natural”.
- Most importantly give yourself some daily relaxation time
When it comes to managing stress the motto is KEEP IT SIMPLE – set yourself things to do that are achievable – commit to doing the basics that you know you can manage – even if that means doing nothing else other than taking a Naturopathic supplement to support your body or a simple promise to yourself to actually take time out to relax – doing something basic on a regular basis is the key to stress relief.
Out therapists are happy to discuss with you strategies to manage your stress – whether it be naturopathic advice, massage, a free meditation session or some coaching – we can help you de-stress!

DANCE FOR HEALINGby Bella Grossberg I have always danced since quite young as I found it helped me contact feelings and release feelings that I otherwise wasn't able to access. I was always a very shy girl so it became my non-verbal expression where words were not required. As I grew older I experimented with various forms of dance eg Jazz, Israeli, belly, flamenco and salsa. I have loved them all and still continue with Salsa dance but none give me the sense of self-empowerment, freedom and feeling of aliveness and potential for change that this particular kind of expressive dance does. I have trained with an American Dance Therapist for over 25 years in the area of Dance/Movement therapy and worked with a great variety of people with different ages and needs. I have been working privately recently working one-on-one addressing the person's individual issues using movement and dance. A while ago I had a client who was a school teacher who did not feel confident about her body, in fact had very little body awareness but rather lived mainly in her head. As she began to move and learn to trust her body, she was able over time to initiate and express movement from a deep, inner place. She was able to feel freedom in her body and in her whole being. This new found confidence began to filter into other aspects of her life ie work, family and relationships. She was able to embody her feelings, emotions and thoughts thus feeling a deep connection to her inner being as well. There was anew energy about her and a sense of aliveness.

HOMEOPATHY WITH BEN GADD We currently have the talented Ben Gadd working with us. Ben is a Homeopath (BA (Hons), BSc, Dip HE, RN) with a passion for what he does. Not only does he love working with clients, he also teaches homeopathy at the prominent Sydney College of Homeopathic Medicine (Melbourne Campus). Homeopathy is the second most widely used therapeutic modality in the world today, and is widely practiced in the UK and Europe, India, and South America. Ben came to homeopathy after working as a psychiatric nurse, and looking for a more natural, gentle, and holistic way of improving people’s health. He was appealed by homeopathy’s focus on addressing the underlying causes of disease, rather than merely treating symptoms, and also the focus on using the smallest dose of a medicine, hence avoiding the sometimes toxic side effects of pharmaceutical drugs (homeopathy is used safely with babies and pregnant women). Ben trained at the College of Homeopathy in London. He has a strong interest in the link between mental and emotional states, and physical ill-health. When it comes to assisting with stress management homeopathy can be very effective at relieving symptoms and allowing us to disconnect from some of the emotional causes that effect us physically. |
